Open-concept layouts are popular for the sense of space and connection they create, but without good planning they can feel cluttered.
Use area rugs, lighting fixtures and subtle level changes to zone the living, dining and kitchen areas without adding walls. This keeps the openness while still defining each function.
Consider sightlines from the main entrance — the most visually interesting elements (a feature wall, a piece of art) should be what guests see first, not the back of a sofa or a cluttered kitchen counter.
Furniture should be arranged to support conversation and movement, with clear pathways between zones rather than pieces scattered without a plan.
